Alaska Road Commission Garage Reconstruction into Theater and Art Gallery, Rika's Landing State Historical Park, 1984-1986:
This project involved the reconstruction of the historic Alaska Road Commission Garage as a playhouse theater and art gallery within the parameters of the original 35'x85' building. This required the placement of many of the facilities underground and on three different levels to accomplish the use requirements of the owners and to meet the historical requirements of the state historical architect. Utilizing historic photographs and an as-built survey, the exterior of the structure was reconstructed as an exact facsimile. The interior was adaptively reused to suit the new features. Some historic features were incorporated; for example, the configuration of the original trusses were utilized. In the performance area, the original wall grid construction was utilized as an acoustical wall. The structure is sited in the Big Delta State Historical Park, which is the largest historical park in Alaska. .
